So here I present Big Red. Our new steer. Ryan came home last Tuesday and told me that a fence was being delivered on Wednesday (the green one in the photos). So he assembled it and then on Thursday morning our cow was delivered! He was a little bit shy at first, but now he will come when Ryan walks to the fence (he thinks that he is bringing him hay). He doesn't like the girls or me yet and pretty much takes cover under the tangerine tree when we come out to see him. Something about the noise and the twirling? Anyway, so here he is in all his glory. He is a pretty red/brown color and fun to watch. We sit by our back window and watch him eat. Addie loves to show everyone our cow and can moo so nicely. We have named him Big Red. Hopefully he will eat lots and come next fall/winter... we will have some yummy meat!

GO BIG RED!! That is funny that he is scared of you adn the girls. Maybe it isn't the twirling, but the fluffy pink!! Must be fun to have a yard big enough for a COW! Now, is Ryan going to clean up the manure?? lol
Gross, Ju. Gross. And how will you get to your fruit trees with a cow in the way?
ju, what to stay? he sure is a pretty cow...i know that you grew up by the farm and all, but i just couldn't do it. oh the crying eyes you are going to see from your girls when you have to kill him.
No waaaaay. Oh my gosh, I thought Chris was kidding when he told me that Ryan wanted to get and raise beef!!!!!!! I am really impressed. You have a great backyard for it though. Kudos to you too for encouraging/allowing your husband to do this. Can't wait to show Chris.
Come visit again soon! We've moved and think of you guys at night when we hear the fireworks at Disneyland go off - we're that close.
My dearest Jen, silly girl the fruit trees are on the other side of the yard! Except the tangerine tree, which we don't love as much as the others!
My concerned Allison, you are correct, that we may have to do some explaining come fall when Big Red no longer resides in the back yard, but in the freezer. But Ryan plans to get another one in the spring that will become the replacement. Yes, this whole business is a littl crazy, but it is kind of fun to look out in my yard knowing what my cow, soon to be beef is eating! Just think... year supply without the storage!
