Yesterday, Ryan came home and told me that a female cow was being delivered in about a half hour! Yikes, we talked about getting another one, but so soon! So we went outside and saw the newest addition. It is actually owned by Jordan, Ryan's brother, but he is leaving on his mission next week, so basically we get to babysit a cow. As soon as Haylee heard it was a girl, she asked when it was going to have babies because "she has never seen a baby cow and wanted to feed it with a bottle." We have to wait around a year before she can even have a baby and that is IF we want to go down that route. As of right now, Big Red has a little friend. Right after Haylee saw it she ran passed Jordan right up to me and whispered "Mom, we should name it Karen because that is a good name for a cow." So Karen it is. Funny story though, as soon as they released her into the pen, Big Red ran right up to her and started jumping around like a little kid so excited to see a friend! He must have been lonely. So now Karen follows Big Red all around the back part of the lot. He even pranced up the dirt pile as if to show her how great his "pad" was! Funny. And now we are officially in the cattle business! Oh, and not to forget: Ryan and Jordan bought and moved 37 bales of hay for the long haul of winter feedings. Good worker boys. I was sure glad that Jordan was there they help, it was a huge project.

Ju, I am curious as to what your neighbors think of this cattle raising business. Don't they hate them? Don't YOU hate them? The smell, the noise, the smell, the smell, oh, and the smell?
I love Karen the COW!! You realize that after you kill big red you will have to get another friend for Karen!! This could go on forever! :)
Most of my neighbors have livestock as well. So no, they don't mind, they have even offered to let the cows graze in their yards. There is no smell and no real noise they don't really moo. Yes, Liz this will most likely go on for a while, but I am fine with that, maybe we will get a pony next and Maddie can come and ride her!
How fun! Beckam has been obsessed with farm animals lately. We'll have to come visit you guys. Though, he'd probably be scared if he saw them in real life. . .
p.s. I can't believe you met Amy Rolloff! I showed mckane and he was like "the mom on little people!"- We were both all excited since we loved that show and used to watch it all the time. I'm so jealous!! What a fun vacation!
I'm having issues with "karen is a good name for a cow." But I take it in stride. I, myself, am a holstein. It is true.
