Grandpa Palmer's fishing derby

Grandpa Palmer's annual fishing derby was held on May 15-16 weekend at the cabin in Pinetop, AZ. After the girls dance recital, we loaded them up and then drove straight up to the mountains. The girls slept the entire way. Elyse decided to wake up when we got to the cabin and then wouldn't sleep unless I was holding her. Needles to say, it was a LONG night. The next morning we packed up our fishing gear and went fishing.

Haylee and Addilyn were so excited. (check out their fishing hats and matching rain jackets... yes I love having little girlies!) It took a little while, but once we got the fish biting we caught a couple for each girl. At one point Ryan was loading bait on one of the hooks and Haylee was holding her pole and started reeling it in. I asked her what she was doing and she said that there was a fish on her hook. Sure enough she reeled in that fish all by herself. She loved that she caught a fish ,but she never did actually touch it. She was really sad when we threw it back, but I told her if she wouldn't clean it out and eat it, then we were going to throw them back. Haylee's largest was 12 inches which won her the $25.00 cash prize for largest fish in her age category.

Addilyn also had a chance to reel in a fish and loved every minute of it. She didn't have much patience for waiting for one to be caught, but once it was caught she loved to reel it in and then hold the fish.

After a morning of fishing we went to the cabin, had lunch and the big awards ceremony. All the kids walked away with a prize from the dollar store. Those who won first got $25.00, second got a fishing pole, third got a fishing bag. It was a really fun to spend some time in the mountains and fishing. Elyse just sat in the stroller or snuggly and hung out. She really is becoming such a good baby!
Thanks Dad for a fun weekend with lots of memories... until next year!
