My mom, myself and my girlies drove to Safford on Tuesday 12 Jan. It was my younger sister Heather's birthday and her hubby had to work. At the last minute I decided to go with my mom. So we packed the kids up in their jammies (6:30AM), picked up some Krispy Kreme donuts (4 dozen) and then drove to Safford. The girls never went back to sleep so they were a little grumpy at first, but with an unlimited amount of donuts to eat... they were in heaven! We showed up on her doorstep with some balloons, a sign and donuts.
She was totally surprised!
We had coordinated with her hubby so he knew our plans. We hung out at her adorable house (she is so crafty!) The girls loved to play on her huge red bean bag and throw dirt clods at the wall.
Then we went to Casa Manana (a yummy Mexican food restaurant. The fish tacos are SOOOOOO good!) Then we drove down main street (so cute!) on our way to Discovery Park. This is a little free place that teaches kids about the atmosphere (stars, moon, planets, astronomers, etc). We walked around the displays, saw this random stack of turtles (that echoed)
Then took the worst simulator ride every (it was so bumpy and seriously could make a person sick). The girls were a little scared, but we reassured them it wasn't real and that we were really going to crash into the sun. (this is before the ride!)
We climbed inside a large tire.
and walked around on the RR tracks (even Elyse had a turn)

After Discovery Park we dropped Heather off at home, said goodbye and then went to Water Depot on our way out of town. Water Depot is a cool place like Bahama Bucks, but your shaved ice costs a whopping $.50 for a small $1.00 for large and $.23 added for cream! It was delicious. Needless to say, if I lived in Safford it would be a regular stop for us (here is one Addilyn enjoying hers and part of Haylee's... she loves this stuff)
As we drove out of town, we stopped at the Gila Valley Temple and got a snap shot of the girls with the temple in progress.
We are going to go back in April for the open house and you should too! See here for details.
It was such a fun trip. Elyse and Addilyn fell asleep on the way home and Haylee watched videos. Thanks Grandma Treats for letting us tag along. We can't wait to go back to Safford. Hope you had a great birthday Heather! We Love you tons.
