March 2010 SPRING BREAK FUN!!!

So the plans were to have no plans and just enjoy the gorgeous weather and do some spring cleaning... On Monday of Spring Break I got a phone call from my sister Denise and Liz saying that they were going to go and visit our other sister in Safford at 2:30 that afternoon and that I was welcome to join the fun. Not wanting to miss out on a fun opportunity to hang out with my sisters and all their kiddos, we quickly packed and headed out. Ryan had a 3 day scout outing at the end of the week and had tons of work so it worked out quite nicely to get out of his hair!

Brandon and Heather were so kind to let all 10 kids and 3 moms crash their house!

Some of our activities included-

Sleeping in (seriously it was 10 AM and Haylee was out amidst the noise of the other 9 children!)

playing with cousins
making forts, digging in the dirt, finding treasures in all the empty lots around Heather's house
flying kites in the constant Safford wind! (see Mt. Graham and the snow!)
Heather and Liz got to take over after the kids got tired of tending the kites.

Me trying to be a photographer. Haylee and Addilyn flying the kites.
riding scooters (Addilyn popping a wheely!)
drawing sidewalk chalk pictures (yes, the bath water was very dirty!)
and space ships
that went to the moon!
We also went to a yummy shaved ice place called water depot that sells huge shaved ice for $.50 (we went twice in two days with all of us- no the attendant was not always happy to see us!)

On our way out of town my sister Heather's friend lives outside of Safford and somehow had some hookups to a natural spring. She let us in and we started off the afternoon by lathering up in "mineral mud" that "heals."
Then off to the other pools. Apparently the rumor is that this place was a public swimming pool in the 70s and then the rolling stones bought it and now it is owned by someone else and they are fixing it up. It is a natural hot spring that filters through several pools and eventually leads to this enormous swimming pool. This is where we spent the afternoon. The kids of course were in heaven and the water was nice and warm for us pansies... who don't like the cold. Elyse was not a fan of the water, but hopefully she will come around come summer or I don't know what I will do.

one happy moment in the water. In her defense, I wouldn't let her fall asleep on the way to the hot springs because I wanted her to take a good nap when we were traveling back to Mesa. It worked, she slept most of the way home, but she was a little cranky at the pool!
